We provide laboratory services to help you measure with your camera.
Cameras take images and give measurements in pixels. Calibration allows measuring in metric scale!
We can help you take images from fast or slow events under controlled lighting condition for research purposes.
You may use our field-proven technology to measure deformation and strain in 2D within your field of view.
The VSG technology comes with camera, tripod, lighting, and special software. Here are some images from the program output.
Visual measurement requires the following conditions to provide output results:
white light; no lasers required
no camera motion with respect to specimen
non-contact measurement with suitable lens
Simple preparation using paint
Sample size from 1cm to 5 m is possible
Very high strain and displacement is possible
Measure in-plane displacements and strains
Inspect at possibly all visible points of interest easily
Output results to Tecplot/Excel/Photoshop
The VSG was initially developed for the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology, Tehran, Iran. The software requires special lighting and controlled condition for optimal image capture. The software uses optical flow methods for computation of motion between consecutive image frames. This motion is then converted to strain and displacement fields in X and Y directions. The output is validated using experimental and numerical methods. Using a procedure called calibration, the camera can make metric measurements. The most important step in this technology is take suitable images during the process.
